How to accomplish a flat rate shipping fee for your first item and then an additional shipping fee for each additional item in the WooCommerce shipping panel.
WooCommerce documentation gives you a formula for Flat Rate Shipping plus an additional shipping fee for each item in the cart. Please note their keywords are: each item.
Here is their example:
10 + ( 2 * [qty] )– A base shipping cost of $10 plus $2 for each item in the cart.- What the WooCommerce formula actually does is charge the customer $12 for the first item, $14 for 2 items, $16 for 3 items and so forth. If you notice, they have ( 2 * [qty] ). The [qty] is the total quantity in the cart, not additional quantities in the cart, hence their keywords of “each item”.
In order to have a flat rate of $10 on the first item and then and a shipping fee of $2 for each additional item, this is how you would use the formula. Please note my keywords are: each additional item.
My example:
8 + ( 2 * [qty] )– Since WooCommerce uses all quantities in the formula, my example will result in $10 for your first item, then $12 for 2 items, $14 for 3 items and so forth.
This is such an easy fix, but when you look at their example and they state “A base shipping cost of $10” it can throw you off for a minute, because you might think base shipping is for the first item. When reading the rest of their statement “plus $2 for each item in the cart” and looking at the formula, it’s quite clear what they are doing.
